Save the Sage Grouse!

In 2008, the United States Bureau of Land Management issued protections for the gentle sage grouse. The resulting Kanab Resource Management Plan effectively protected a small sage grouse habitat in Utah from being ruined by mining.

So why is the Bureau of Land Management now angling to mine fifty million tons of coal from that same 2600-acre habitat? The agency has green-lighted an expansion of the Alton coal mine into what is known to be habitat for the critically endangered sage grouse.

Please join with me in demanding that the BLM honor the Kanab Resource Management Plan of 2008, and save the sage grouse!

Dear Bureau of Land Management:

We the undersigned are appalled that you are approving the expansion of the Alton coal mine. This mine expansion goes straight to the heart of scarce remaining sage grouse habitat. The sage grouse is fighting for its continued existence as a species. And your plan to expand the mine will only bring it several steps closer to extinction. We implore you to suspend this plan immediately and honor the provisions of the Kanab Resource Management Plan of 2008.
