Ask The Chainsmokers to Apologize & Donate for Making Racist Joke About Chinese People Eating Dogs

On Monday, The Chainsmokers shared a now-deleted video of their recent trip to China. While being interviewed by an Asian journalist, the Chainsmokers member Alex Pall makes a joke about Chinese people eating dogs.

"During tours, do you bring your dog with you?" the interviewer asks.

"I try to but she's like, really ill-behaved," Pall says. "I mean if she could come anywhere, I'd bring her to...Well I don't know if I'd bring her to China." He then cracks up at his "joke."

Care2 members have been doing work for years to end the Yulin dog meat festival, but just because this festival occurs in China, it doesn't mean everyone in the entire country eats dogs! Insinuating such reinforces cruel stereotypes.

A spokesperson for the Chainsmokers has released a statement, but it doesn't quite contain an apology: "The interview was posted as it was meant to highlight how much the Chainsmokers love China and all of their fans there," the spokesperson said. "When they noticed that comment was taken out of context they took it down as it was not meant to offend anyone."

Please sign this petition to ask the Chainsmokers to actually apologize and to make a donation to an organization that is fighting racism against Asians, particularly in the U.S., where it is widespread.
