Save the Bees. Ask EPA to withdraw clothianidin registration.

Just read a very alarming article on the EPA's insufficient testing, done by Bayer, before allowing unlimited use of clothianidin on corn, canola, sugarbeets and other commercial crops. A leaked memo and article on grist.org provides more details.

The EPA lists a series of documents on it, the supplemental and inadequate testing done by Bayer was not sufficient to justify registration, and further testing suggests that
clothianidin may be a major factor in colony collapse disorder. I had so few bees last summer that I will be getting a hive for my property, so I can have tomatoes again.  But bees forage for a couple of miles. Fortunately I'm not in the center of a cornfield. So many crops depend on bees for pollination, this could be a major issue in keeping humans fed.

I couldn't find a contact point on the epa site, where to send the petition after it is signed and done, so I went to the region 5 office, having driven through Illinois cornfields many times. Margaret Jones is in charge of specific pesticides for that office.

Please sign and ask her to start the process of eliminating clothianidin from the allowed pesticide list before spring planting begins.  Thank you. The photo is my oregano plants, that were always covered with bees, until 2010.
