Hedgerows are continually being cut back during the bird nesting season - it should be a criminal offence to trim or destroy any tree, hedge or large shrub between MARCH 1st and SEPTEMBER 30th.Many nests are affected by people's thoughtless or deliberate actions. Birds nests ARE protected by law in the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 where it is an offence to knowingly disturb a nesting bird BUT people get round this law by saying that they have checked for signs of nesting - and whether they have or not cannot be proven.
