Stop the Waste

I am requesting a NEW tax. This tax will be for the waste of precious natural resource being Natural Gas. Currently, hundreds or thousands of gas flares dot oilfields all over Texas. Producers simply waste this natural gas in effort to maximize their oil production.

The resource can never be replaced! Therefore, the producers must meter this resource and pay tax in the same amount normally billed to customers for use of the resource. This would mean the producers pay around $9.00 per MCF. Assuming 1000 gas flares at 1000-MCF/day this tax will generate around 3.2-billion dollars per year.
