Save the Ocelot!

The ocelot population has severely declined in recent decades after development destroyed their habitats and many others were hit by vehicles. Now, only 50 of the large, beautiful wild cats remain in Texas. Besides five that were spotted in Arizona, these are the last ocelots known to exist in the U.S.

The government is taking some measures to preserve remaining ocelots, including special wildlife crossings that would keep them out of traffic. What the cats really need, however, is an expansion of their natural habitat. So far, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has only purchased 100,000 of an estimated 1 million acres that ocelots need to recover their populations in Texas.

Extinction is forever. Please sign the petition to urge the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to prioritize ocelot recovery and purchase more land for them to recover their populations.

As you know, the ocelot population has severely declined in recent decades after development destroyed their habitats and many others were hit by vehicles. We understand that the government is taking some measures to preserve remaining ocelots, including special wildlife crossings that would keep them out of traffic. What the cats really need, however, is an expansion of their natural habitat. So far, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has only purchased 100,000 of an estimated 1 million acres that ocelots need to recover their populations in Texas.

Extinction is forever. We believe it is important to prioritize ocelot recovery and purchase more land for them to recover their populations. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
