Don't trash environmental protections to stop a few immigrants!

Utah Congressman Rob Bishop is very worried that a few more poverty-stricken Mexicans might make their perilous way across the US border, desperately hoping for a better life.

So he has floated the National Security and Federal Lands Protections Act which would put thousands of square miles of national greenspace under the control of Homeland Security. Make no mistake: this is a disastrous bill that would allow Homeland Security to suspend pretty much all the environmental protections you deem sacred. That includes the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Air Act, and the Safe Drinking Water Act. This bill would allow new roads to be built through ecological sensitive wildlife areas and would introduce noise and vehicle pollution to some of America's best wild lands. Tell Congress to shoot down this bill!

We the undersigned do not think that terrible threats to United States security are coming from poverty-stricken neighborhoods in Mexico. The amount of attention that has been devoted by our government to protecting the US/Mexico border and preventing a few desperate illegals from crossing over is pathological. Now Congress is seriously considering a bill that would rob ecologically sensitive borderlands of their environmental protections. We cannot think, off hand, of any bill more disastrous. Do NOT endanger clean air, clean water, and protections for endangered species by passing the National Security and Federal Lands Protections Act into law.
