REQUEST SFUSD TO REVISE RECREATIONAL TECHNOLOGY USE POLICY ON MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPUSES

Policies on recreational use of technology such as smartphones & tablets on SFUSD middle schools vary by site.  A handful of middle school principals have created policies allowing unrestricted recreational use on campus during non-class time.

Data from research centers around the world caution that unregulated screen time on school campuses can lead to dangerous physical, social and emotional health issues as well as have negative impacts on academic achievement.

We ask SFUSD to acknowledge the most current data on the impact of unrestricted screen time on middle school students and create a standardized policy accordingly to secure a safe & high quality-learning environment for every child.
