Federally Mandate the Recycling of All Plastics

Plastic cannot be destroyed of, it is not bio degradable and does not go away, yet everyday we are still creating it by the tons. What happens to the plastic that gets thrown away and not recycled? It ends up in our oceans, and from the sun and salt water, it is broken down into microscopic pieces. These micro plastics are then ingested by living organisms, recycled through the water systems and end up inside us. microplastics are now found in abundance in the Great Lakes, which means they have already invaded our fresh drinking water sources. What happens when we ingest too much plastic on a cellular level? What are the health problems associated with that? I don't want to wait that long to find out. With 75% of the US trash being recyclable, we only recycle 30%. Many states do not even have recycling options. With climate change at an all time high, it's time we start nipping these things in the butt, starting with a federal mandate to recycle all plastics, so that the need to create more everyday won't be as high.
