The Removal of Magnet School Students from Base School Class Rankings

In Horry County, there are four magnet high schools where students from various base schools can attend. These magnet schools are The Academy of Arts, Science, and Technology, The Academy of Technology and Arts, Early College High School, and The Scholars Academy. Every student who attends one of these magnet schools is also technically part of the base school as well, which means that they are put into the base school rankings. This means that students who have never stepped foot in the base school still have the opportunity to become valedictorian and speak to a class that they have never met and get to take away scholarships from base school students as well. We are not saying that these students haven't worked hard we are just saying that they need to be separate from us because they aren't really apart of our school. No one attends North Myrtle Beach High School but considers themselves a St. James student, so why is it fair to do that with magnet and base schools? This is perceived as unfair to students who attend base schools such as Carolina Forest and Socastee High School. Base School students propose, not that the magnet schools be removed or become independent high schools, but rather that they are removed from class rankings.
