Make Learning Easy for Kids Through School Partnerships with Libraries. There's No Reason Not To!

Chicago just made a common-sense decision that will improve the lives of students and teachers across the city! Under a new initiative, students and educators will be able to use their school IDs as library cards, without needing to submit separate library card applications or carry around an extra identity card.

This idea is so elegant and simple, it almost feels obvious in retrospect. But it's actually quite exceptional and rare. Other U.S. cities, like NYC, San Francisco, Boston, and more, need to implement similar programs! Sign the petition!

Chicago is joining a small but growing trend to make reading more accessible for children. In Nashville, Tennessee, the "Limitless Library" program gives teachers and students access to the whole city's catalogue of books, audiobooks, and library databases for research projects. Saint Paul, Minnesota, implemented a "Library Go" program that provides a virtual library card automatically to every student when they enroll in school. Baltimore's "Student Accounts" program operates very similarly.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles provides a "Student Success Card" for all students, which gives them access to all of the library system's online resources - without any fines or late fees! Even better, it gives students access to online tutors every single day, from 11am to 11pm.

Together, these cities are proving that it can and should be easy for kids to access learning materials! Why make reading or research harder than it needs to be? It just seems so clear that libraries should be partnering with schools - so let's keep this trend going and growing!

Sign the petition to urge other U.S. cities to help kids learn and grow by expanding library access! It's just the common sense thing to do!
