Petition for a New Attendance Policy for Colleges

Many people are victims of crimes and have to attend court, but recieve unexcused absences. I am concerned because I feel that people that are victims of crimes should be excused from school for this among things. I attend school at Middle Tennessee State University and there has not been a policy for these emergency situations. There are also other policies that are not in place for the attendance policy at Middle Tennessee State University that I feel should be in place. In emergency situations on the attendance policy at Middle Tennessee State University, the only things that are considered to be emergencies are: inclement weather, military and veteran affairs, illness or hospitalization of the student, and jury duty. I feel that not only should there be a policy in place to excuse absences for victims of crimes, but also policies in place that state that if you have an immediate family member in the hospital or a funeral to attend, then you should be excused for that as well. It appears to me as if only pre-schools, elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools excuse these things, however, I have yet to see a policy in place for these emergency situations in college.
