Colorado, Crack Down on Soil-Contaminating Oil Spills!

A new Denver Post analysis found that Colorado's frackers and drillers are spilling 200 gallons of poisonous chemicals on state soil every day. Last year, a 10-year high of 578 spills ruined 173,400 tons of topsoil.

As the Post reports, at least 45 percent of the petroleum chemicals spilled during drilling remained in soil, some of it ending up in groundwater.

If fracking and drilling on this scale has any short-term benefits, they don't outweight the long-term negative effects on human and environmental health. Polluting soil on this scale is not sustainable, and must be controlled. Please sign the petition to urge Colorado legislators to crack down on oil spills!

As you know, a new Denver Post analysis found that Colorado's frackers and drillers are spilling 200 gallons of poisonous chemicals on state soil every day. Last year, a 10-year high of 578 spills ruined 173,400 tons of topsoil.

If fracking and drilling on this scale has any short-term benefits, they don't outweight the long-term negative effects on human and environmental health. Polluting soil on this scale is not sustainable, and we believe it must be controlled. We respectfully urge you to create legislation that will control the damage caused by these oil spills. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
