Speak Out for Life-Saving Protections for Florida Panther
The endangered Florida Panther has seen a rise in numbers over the past few decades from 20 to 30 in 1967 to an estimated 150 to 250 today. Because of this population growth, the state wildlife commission is meeting with lawmakers on June 23rd to discuss removing the panthers from the endangered species list.
Despite the increase in the panther population, Florida panthers face more dangers now than ever, including the destruction of their habitat to make room for roadways and shopping centers. If removed from the endangered list, the state will have the authority to kill panthers they deem problematic.
Panthers have not recovered enough to remove their protections in the face of new threats. Please sign the petition to preserve endangered species protections for Florida panthers!
We, the undersigned, are concerned with your plans to consider removing Florida Panthers from the endangered species list. We understand that the panther has seen a rise in numbers over the past few decades from 20 to 30 in 1967 to an estimated 150 to 250 today, but we believe this increase is still insufficient to remove protections.
