STOP THE USE OF PLASTIC STRAWS

The second most common seabird in the Hawaiian islands, the Laysan Albatross, are now classified as vulnerable due to their drastic reduction from plastic pollution. Conservation efforts have helped to improve their numbers, but they need more help than that.

Plastic straws are a huge factor to plastic waste. Their lightweight means that they are often missed at recycling facilities or blown out of bins, where they end up in our waters or washed up on beaches.

If local schools, cafes and restaurants in the Port Macquarie area give up plastic straws and switch to a biodegradable option, then we will be making a difference. It is time we take matters into our own hands and stop contributing to the problem.
