Get Rid of Cal Poly's Major Declaration Requirement for Incoming Freshman!

Declaring your major is a trap that does not set up the student for success rather it creates unnecessary stress, confusion, and it usually prohibits students from graduating on time. Cal Poly should give students a buffer year, where they can take different major-related courses their first year and then have the students declare their major by the end of their first year. This solution is not as drastic as making Cal poly change their entire academic flow because it is only one year to be undeclared rather than two years like other schools. Additionally, since Cal Poly is a quarter system, the student will have 3 different rounds of classes to experiment with their classes so it gives student a good amount of time to explore their options. After that first year they can start their flowchart and the student can deal with the effects of deciding to be undeclared, whether that be a taking an extra quarter or taking summer classes, but at least they had the chance to explore. The student's that know what major they want to pursue for sure will be unaffected because they can just start their flowchart off the bat like how it is now.
