Choose To Be Plastic Free

The Hawaiian culture places value on sustainability, yet businesses in Hawaii do not all contribute to reducing, reusing, and recylcling.

In 1977, the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands approved a fifty-three year lease of 39 acres in East Hawaiʻi in an effort to help Hilo expand on its weak selection of available goods and services. The Prince Kuhio Plaza opened on this leased land in 1985. Despite the Hawaiian culture placing value on sustainable living, there are no proper resources for recycling to be found on the property leased by the Prince Kuhio Plazaʻs parent company, General Growth Properties, Inc. It takes more than 400 years for plastic left in the environment to decompose. Signing this petition helps to support the request that the Prince Kuhio Plaza provide recycle bins in the mall to encourage proper recycling of plastics instead of adding it to our landfills.
