Petition to Save the Trees On The Conoy Canal Trail

Recently our township has taken action to encourage people to come and enjoy the Conoy trails that we have to offer. Money, time and much effort was put forth to establish a beautiful walking path to the South side of the Conoy Canal Trail. It has been a tremendous success. As an avid trail enthusiast, my Conoy family and I frequent the trail, but prefer the North side which has been preserved naturally. The amount of wildlife this trail supports is breathtaking from the snakes and turtles to the hawks and eagles. Recently, ALL of the trees on the North side have been marked for removal.

Article 1 section 27 of the Pennsylvania State Constitution states: The people have a right to clean air, pure water, and to the preservation of the natural, scenic, and esthetic values of the environment. Pennsylvania’s public natural resources are the property of all of the people, including generations yet to come. As a trustee of the resources, the Commonwealth shall conserve and maintain them for the benefit of all people.

The deforestation of our trail is a clear violation of this constitutional right bestowed upon us by the State’s Founders. It is not only our right, but our responsibility to preserve this natural environment for ourselves, our children and the stability of the wildlife population.
