The Healthy Soils Initiative will support on-farm demonstration projects and incentives for improved agricultural soils management practices that increase soil organic matter, improve the water-holding capacity of soils and provide greenhouse gas emission benefits, including increased soil carbon storage and reduced emissions overall. The initiative will provide multiple benefits, including improved air and water quality as well as enhanced crop yields and reduced soil erosion.

California recognizes agriculture is on the frontlines of a changing climate. The Healthy Soils Initiative takes the needed step in establishing resources for farmers and ranchers to effectively and meaningfully address climate change.
