Stop the naming of the new student commons building at Sacred Heart University after Linda McMahon!

Linda McMahon is the former chief executive of World Wrestling Entertainment. She was in charge of a company that marketed violence and the degradation of women as entertainment and she her made millions off this business.

WWE wrestling is indeed fake and scripted, but the ideas it promotes are most definitely real.
It glorifies violence against women and contributes to the idea that it is okay to sexually assault and batter women. During WWE fights, women are constantly stripped naked, sexually humiliated, and beaten as a form of “entertainment” marketed toward children.

WE LIVE IN A COUNTRY WHERE ON AVERAGE, 213,000 SEXUAL ASSAULTS OCCUR EACH YEAR, AND A WOMAN IS BEATEN EVERY 9 SECONDS!!!!

We all know about the Common Core and the 4 questions we are asked during the 4 courses we are required to take. How can SHU promote the question, “what does it mean to forge a more just society for the common good?”, and still allow someone like McMahon represent the school and its values as a Catholic institution?!?!?! Linda McMahon has done the exact OPPOSITE of this and has instead contributed to creating a more unjust society. Violence, especially against women, does not build a more just society for the common good.

Dedicating a building on campus to Linda McMahon and honoring her, is the wrong thing to do. It discredits the values of the University.

Yes, she gave a lot of money to build the commons, but putting her name on it constitutes an endorsement of the values her work represents.

At a Catholic institution, we would hope that our values are not for sale!
