Demand More Recycling in Edinburgh

Edinburgh, Scotland is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. So why has it fallen so far behind on recycling? Only 37.2 percent of Edinburgh's household waste was recycled in 2014. That leaves Edinburgh placing 24th out of 32 councils in successful recycling. The city is also far behind the European target of fifty percent recycled household waste by 2020. Please join me in supporting Friends of the Earth who have asked Edinburgh's council to "up its game," meaning expand recycling facilities and opportunities throughout the city.

To the Edinburgh Council:

We the undersigned are sad to learn that so little of your household waste is getting recycled. Edinburgh is a beautiful city, but you need good recycling programs to keep it that way. Recycling not only prevents overflowing landfills, it also cuts down on pollution that is generated in producing new materials. Europe has a goal of recycling fifty percent of all household waste. Sadly, you are not well poised to meet that goal. Please expand recycling facilities and opportunities throughout the city.
