Keep 276 Scenic

On November 4, a permit was filed in Transylvania County for the construction of a commercial project on Highway 276 at the corner of Becky Mountain Road. The site of the project is a 3 acre parcel that is in a 100-year flood plain, bisected by Hogsed Creek and located across the highway from the French Broad River. This parcel sits directly below a historic church and will directly affect the adjacent community of Mill Cove. We the undersigned stand with Keep 276 Scenic and other concerned citizens. We call on Transylvania County to reject any commercial development along Highway 276 that is in a designated flood plain or sensitive waterways; endangers the natural environment; endangers wildlife; creates safety hazards; ignores historical and culturally significant features; and compromises the natural asthetics of this corridor.
