Tell Harper to Stop Secretly Defunding Literacy!

Harper's government has been defunding national literacy programs in Canada without any announcement.  As a result, many programs are being caught off guard and suddenly left without funding, forcing them to close.

Instead, the government is now only offering to fund literacy projects, not literacy programs.  What this means is that non-profit literacy programs are only able to operate if they are receiving funding for a specific project.  Once funding for this project stops, literacy programs often have to close their doors.  Research has shown that funding non-profit literacy programs as a whole is a more effective way of keeping these programs available to the people who need them.

Tell Harper to step up and stop secretly defunding literacy programs!
