Protect Students’ Access to FCS in Ames, Iowa

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) requests that Ames High School and the school district reconsider eliminating it's Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) program. The pathways supported by FCS facilitate students college and career readiness by equipping them with critical employability skills, leadership development, and technical training. Specifically, the program at Ames High School focuses on Family and Community Services and Restaurants and Lodging Services.

Students in this pathway are preparing for in-demand, high skill careers in the Human Services field. Acquiring skills they can take with them into careers serving your community's most vulnerable populations. Highly-rewarding careers in social services, housing and community development, nutrition and food accessibility, counseling and mental health, and early childhood education and services. Additionally, students are developing critical life skills they can apply to careers, like learning how to engage in teamwork, cooperation, and interpersonal relationships.

Cutting the successful dynamic FCS pathway program at Ames High School will negatively impact the communities and the youth you serve as well as the career preparation for your community.
