Demand the government takes action to provide protection for the near-threatened snubfin dolphin

Snubfin dolphins - a near threatened species - are in desperate need of better safe havens off the coast of Western Australia.

Threats to snubfin dolphins include drowning in fishery and anti-shark nets as well as poaching.

Australia’s snubfin dolphin remains mostly unprotected by existing marine reserves.

The Kimberley Commonwealth marine reserve and the Western Australian Camden Sound marine park protect a small population of snubfin dolphins.

However, conservationists say that the WA Government’s proposed Roebuck Bay marine park should be used to introduce sanctuary protection for Australia’s largest snubfin dolphin population.

The WA government must take action now to increase marine reserves to protect this near-threatened species from slipping into extinction.
