Demand the NSW Government Protects Koalas and Stops its Koala Habitat Secret Land Sale!

Key koala habitat has been secretly put up for sale by the NSW Government, according to a report on SMH.

More than six hectares located near Port Stephens-Great Lake Marine Park Sanctuary Zone have been put up for auction. The area is significant to the local koala population - it is a key breeding area and koalas head to the nearby sands to lick salt. Locals say the koala's route will be cut off if the land is sold. It is also suggested that up to 27 separate threatened species are present on the site.

Representatives from Port Stephens Council stated the sell-off was unacceptable as the area has been, "classified as being of high environmental and indigenous heritage value by the government."

The report states, "The council and local groups say they became aware of the planned sale by the landholder, the Education Department, when a real estate sign went up last month."
