Save BYU's Memorial Hall

BYUSA is currently proposing the relocation of Memorial Hall from its current position on the East side of the Wilkinson Student Center to a multipurpose room nearby. The Hall, originally dedicated in 1967, has been used as a memorial to BYU alumni who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country, with names dating back to the First World War.

The Hall as it currently stands is a place of reverence and remembrance, set aside from the stress and bustling of normal student life. It is a sacred refuge, where BYU students have the opportunity to show their respect to their fallen peers, and reflect on the sacrifices required to maintain America’s freedom.

While we are grateful for BYUSA’s offer to relocate this sacred hall, we fear that moving it from its current place to a multipurpose room, used for numerous student activities, will disrupt the reverence and respect owed to the brave men and women, whose names line the walls. We ask for the preservation of this hall, that it may continue to serve as a symbol of patriotism, sacrifice, and freedom for generations of Cougars to come.
