Save the Arctic

The polar bear found dead of starvation in Svalbard a few weeks ago is no isolated event. Sadly, there are increasing numbers of polar bears found in this emaciated condition. Because with terrifying speed, the polar bear’s habitat is vanishing.

The Arctic sea-ice is melting at an incredible rate due to climate change. Last September, sea-ice cover retreated to its lowest levels since records began. But companies like Shell are still trying to use the melting Arctic for their own greed. Despite a catalogue of failures leading them to put their Alaskan Arctic drilling plans on hold, Shell are determined to drill in the Arctic at any cost.

They have now jumped into bed with Russian oil company Gazprom and are poised to make an absolute killing in the Russian Arctic. Without urgent action, we could be on the point of losing our battle against the forces of greed.

It’s now or never to save the Arctic. If Shell succeeds in drilling there, every oil company will come knocking. The Arctic will be colonised by the oil industry, with oil rigs stretching to the horizon.
