Help Make California Safe For Wolves

On Oct. 3 and Oct. 4, the California Fish and Game Commission will decide whether to accept a petition from the Center for Biological Diversity and allies to protect wolves under the state's Endangered Species Act. If our petition is accepted, the gray wolf will automatically become a candidate species and within one year will receive full protection.

Wolves have been absent from the state for more than 80 years and have never received protection under state law. Neither the state nor the federal government has ever developed a recovery plan to restore these majestic predators to the extensive habitat that still exists for them in California.

With OR-7's recent visit to the state, it's clear there's a real chance for wolves to recolonize California -- but they will only survive with legal protection.

Take a stand today: Tell the Fish and Game Commission you support protecting wolves in California.
Dear Commissioners,

I am writing in support of protecting wolves under the California Endangered Species Act to return them to the Golden State. Prior to a government-sponsored effort to shoot, trap or poison every wolf in the state, wolves roamed over much of California.

[Your comments will be added here.]

Today there is still extensive habitat for gray wolves across Northern California and the Sierra Nevada, and recently, for the first time in more than 80 years, a wolf has crossed the state line.

I was personally thrilled to hear the news that the wolf "OR-7" was moving into California and believe that -- with protection under the California Endangered Species Act -- wolves will again thrive here.

Please accept the Center for Biological Diversity's petition and protect gray wolves under California's Endangered Species Act.

Sincerely,
