Speak Up for Children With Disabilities Around the World

Imagine a world in which all children realize their full potential in societies that respect people's rights and dignity. This includes the most vulnerable — children with disabilities living in poverty in developing countries are among the most marginalized and vulnerable populations.

The World Bank estimates 15% of the world's population lives with a disability — And estimates the number of children living with a disability vary widely between 90 to 200 million!

Tragically, in many parts of the world, children with a disability are outcasts in their communities. Children living with disabilities are often denied proper nutrition and education. But even if they're lucky enough to attend school, too few teachers and buildings are well-equipped to meet their needs.

Plan Canada is working with families, communities and governments to ensure that schools are accessible and welcoming. If we speak loud enough in support of children with special needs, then we can change age-old mindsets and empower all children — especially those living with a disability.

By joining together to speak out for the vulnerable, we can break down these barriers! Together, we can create learning environments where all children will flourish.
