More Trees = Less Landfill Pollution! (i.e. - Share Your Crazy Ideas!)

Crazy ideas may be exactly what we need to get us out of the environmental mess we're in. Read on, and share some other crazy ideas with your peers.

Growing plants and trees on top of a landfill could reduce the production and release of harmful gases such as methane and carbon dioxide.

This process, known as "phytocapping," is the subject of a recent study by Australian scientists that will be published in the International Journal of Environmental Technology and Management.

By putting a layer of topsoil over the landfill and growing vegetation, the soil and plants capture surface methane emissions four to five times more than a landfill without plants.

On its own, nature can do amazing things. We need to begin trusting nature and stop abusing it.
Sign this pledge if you will embrace innovations such as phytocapping, share the knowledge and encourage your decisionmakers to take real action to reduce pollution and stop global warming! Even if it sounds crazy...
