Support Mental Health Training For Teachers

According to the World Health Organization, "Worldwide 10-20% of children and adolescents experience mental disorders. Half of all mental illnesses begin by the age of 14 and three-quarters by mid-20s."

Today, increasing numbers of students are suffering from mental health issues including anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. Undiagnosed or untreated mental health conditions can impact a child's ability to learn and develop. Some will resort to self harm

Most young people with mental illness begin showing symptoms early in life, so schools are in a unique position to identify and help them get the treatment they need. However, many educators simply do not have the training or support they need.

We must ensure that teachers and school personnel get the resources they need to help students. Increased funding would provide critical training and support including educating teachers about the signs of emerging mental illness and providing school-based counselors who can help families coordinate services.

Sign and show your support for comprehensive mental health training for teachers and school personnel.
