Summer is a great time for fruits and vegetables. Many favorites – peaches, berries, melons, peppers – are now in season, and are grown right here in Maryland by hardworking local farmers.

When you buy local at your grocery store, farmers market or through community supported agriculture (CSA) you get fresh, delicious food and also strengthen your community. Buying local helps farmers in our communities prosper. It keeps dollars in our local economy instead of shipping them off to big food conglomerates with no community ties.

Buying local also gives us fresher food and eliminates the pollution that occurs when food is shipped over long distances.

Fresher food, lower pollution, happier farmers – win, win, win!

As consumers, we share responsibility for demanding a food system that is true to our values, is fair to farmers, invests in homegrown, healthy food and protects our land and waterways from pollution.

You deserve a food system that invests in fresh, local, homegrown food and supports local farmers. Take the Fair Farms pledge to commit to buying local at farmers markets and CSAs.  Our communities, environment and health all benefit when we buy products made close to home. Sign if you support fair farms and local farmers.
