Endangered Species Under Attack From Congress

The House Natural Resources Committee, led by Rep. Rob Bishop (R-Utah), is advancing five bills this week that will weaken the Endangered Species Act. Hundreds of imperiled animals and plants are now on a fast track to extinction. If these bills pass, citizens will also have their ability to participate in protecting endangered species curtailed.

These bills would:
  • remove deadlines for the listing of endangered species, which would all but ensure species never receive lifesaving protections
  • deem any information submitted by a state or local government as the "best available" science, even if such information is fraudulent
  • undercut the ability for citizens to bring lawsuits regarding implementation of the Endangered Species Act
  • reinstate a 2011 decision removing federal protections from gray wolves in the Great Lakes region.
Nine out of 10 Americans support the Endangered Species Act and want it either strengthened or left unchanged by Congress.

TAKE ACTION - contact your representatives in Congress and demand that they protect America's wildlife and keep the Endangered Species Act in full force.
