Protect Joshua Trees

The future of Joshua trees is in peril.

Scientists offer clear evidence that the Joshua tree may go extinct by the end of the century due to climate change, but the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) denied Endangered Species Act (ESA) protections for this desert icon.

WildEarth Guardians sued and scored a groundbreaking legal victory in October 2021 when a federal judge ruled that the USFWS violated the law by failing to list the imperiled Joshua tree under the ESA. The agency was ordered to reconsider its decision, but this is no guarantee that it will do the right thing.

The Joshua tree can't afford another bad decision or delay--it needs protection now. This is a critical window of opportunity. Join Guardians and call on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to follow the science and the law and protect the Joshua tree under the ESA.
