Texas: "Hog Out" is Out of Line!

Everything's bigger in Texas -- including the wild hog population. And how is the Texas Department of Agriculture handling the overabundant pigs?

They've started the program "Hog Out Month -- Get the Hog Outta Texas" to encourage people to kill the hogs and stop them from treading on ranches, parks and...golf courses.

The program's initiatives that encourage people to get out and shoot hogs include a "Hog Out Tailgate Party" and a competition for county grant money. The counties with the highest number of participants and the highest number of acres that landowners will allow access by trappers get the prize.

Texas might love their guns, but shooting and killing hogs is NOT the way to deal with this (man-made) problem.

Tell Texas Commissioner of Agriculture Todd Staples to find a humane way to handle the hog overpopulation.
Dear Commissioner Staples,

I am deeply concerned by the "Hog Out Month -- Get the Hog Outta Texas" initiative, a misguided and inhumane attempt to control the Texas wild hog population.

Hogs aren't native to Texas -- which means they were brought in and are a man-made problem. Don't extinguish these animals to fix the mistake of humans so that you can preserve luxuries like manicured lawns and pristine golf courses.

As a leader in your community, I'm urging you to find a humane way to handle Texas' hog population.
