Tell Colorado State Representatives: Say 'Yes' To Testing Lead Levels In Our Public Schools

Lead is a toxic metal that is very harmful to human health, especially children's health.

Both the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) agree that there is no known safe level of lead in a child’s blood. And while Colorado's water infrastructure has been well maintained, it is crucial to test for elevated lead levels, particularly in school water, to preserve the well-being of our children.

This year, the Colorado legislature is considering a bill HB17-1306: Test Lead in Public Schools' Drinking Water which would establish a grant program to fund such testing. This bill would give schools access to additional resources to perform this very important test.

Our leaders must say yes to testing for lead in our schools' drinking water for the safety and health of our children.

Even just low levels of lead in the blood have been associated with a wide array of health risk, from behavioral problems to impaired growth. These serious risks are detectable and preventable with water quality testing.

Please ask the members of the Colorado House of Representatives to support the health and wellbeing of children by voting to pass funding to test for lead in public schools' drinking water.
