Prevent Child Drownings

Each year, more than 800 children die as a result of unintentional drowning and 3,600 children are injured due to near-drowning incidents.

Because of the warmer weather, from May through August, child drowning deaths increase 89 percent.

These incidents are not only preventable but predictable. You can help. Take the pledge to keep children and loved ones safe in and around water this summer:
As a parent, caregiver, adult, pool owner or just as a water enthusiast, I pledge to help Safe Kids USA protect children by taking the following actions: I will: ** Be a vigilant supervisor and use Safe Kids USA's Water Watcher cards. ** Learn how to swim and make sure my child learns how to swim. ** Learn CPR. ** Ensure a safer water environment by practicing active supervision, installing safeguards for my pool such as 4-sided isolation fence, anti-entrapment pool and spa drain covers, and other devices, like a safety vacuum release system, pool alarm or self-closing and self-latching gates. ** Be a boating safety role model by wearing a life jacket and practicing other safe boating practices.
