Sign the West Virginia Solar Bill of Rights

Solar power creates local jobs, saves  money, makes us more resilient, and enhances our energy security. If you agree that solar equals energy freedom, sign the Solar Bill of Rights.

Send a clear message to your elected officials that you want West Virginia to have a clean, equitable energy system that directs control and benefits back to local communities.

Specifically, the Solar Bill of Rights will call for elected officials to:

  • Support West Virginians' right to produce our own power and put solar on our roofs, in our yards or share a solar array with our neighbors.

  • Make solar affordable and accessible to all.

  • Prevent utilities from charging punitive or arbitrary solar fees and imposing bureaucratic rules to discourage people from going solar.

Dear [elected official],


I support a Solar Bill of Rights for West Virginia and I want you to support it too.


I believe:



  • Everyone has the right to produce their own power.

  • Everyone has the right to put solar on their roofs, in their yards, or to share a nearby solar array with their neighbors.

  • All West Virginians have the right to manage their own electricity production and consumption so that we can all save money.

  • Solar power creates local jobs, keeps money in our community, makes us more resilient, and enhances our energy security.

  • Solar should be affordable and accessible for all.

  • Utilities work for the people - not the other way around.

  • Utilities should enable us to take control of our energy - not prevent us from doing so.

  • Utilities have an obligation to help the communities they serve transition to clean, locally-produced energy.

  • Utilities should not put punitive or arbitrary charges, fees, or rules in the way of solar.


I envision a clean, equitable energy system that directs control and benefits back to local communities, with solar on every roof and money in every pocket. And I am part of a community of people building a new energy system, and rooftop solar is the cornerstone.


I urge you to support solar for West Virginia.
