Tell EPA: Protect Our Kids from Plastic Pollution

Right now, the Trump Environmental Protection Agency is ignoring its responsibility to protect our families from pollution. This time, they want to maintain the status quo for ethane cracker plants — industrial facilities that create the building blocks for plastics manufacturing.

With the rapid expansion of ethane cracker plants around the country, and the dangerous pollution that comes along with this industry, this is no time to slack off on pollution protections.

Moms won't let them get away with this threat to our communities, our health, and our children. Tell EPA Administrator Wheeler: we must update current standards for ethane crackers to be more protective of our children, our families, and our communities.

Parents urge you to strengthen current standards for ethane crackers

Dear Administrator Wheeler,

As a parent, I am deeply concerned by your plan to amend the Ethylene Production National Emission Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants.

By the EPA's own estimate, 2.8 million people live near ethane cracker plants that are putting their health at risk. Because of pollution from benzene, formaldehyde, toluene, and other hazardous air pollutants, those families are at greater risk of cancer, neurological problems, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, birth defects, and asthma attacks.

The weak standards proposed by EPA do not protect our children adequately from these health threats. Please put our children first, not the profits of polluters. These standards must be strengthened to be more protective for our children, our families, and our communities.

Sincerely,
