Urge Congress to Continue Effective Home Visiting Programs

Meet Akeri and her dad, Denzel. Akeri's family has fallen on some tough times but her dad still wants the best for his daughter. He enrolled in a home visiting program so he could learn how to be a great parent and help Akeri succeed.

A federal program called the Maternal, Infant, Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) program helps to fund home visiting programs like the one Akeri's family participates in. It is an effective, voluntary program for families living in poverty. Through educating parents, supporting child literacy and connecting families with social services, it helps kids succeed.

Congress is running out of time to pass a law to ensure this vital program that empowers families continues. Please urge your members of Congress to renew MIECHV today!

Subject: Reauthorize MIECHV

Dear [Congress person],

I am writing today to urge you to reauthorize and expand the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) program.

This program should be continued in its current, flexible and effective format and it should be expanded to meet the needs of more families in our state.

Evidence-based, voluntary home visiting strengthens families and communities. Home visiting programs increase school readiness for kids while improving the economic security for participating families. Home visiting programs are especially beneficial in rural areas where early childhood and parenting resources are scarce.

Put simply, home visiting works! That’s why I urge you to reauthorize and expand MIECHV so more children living in poverty can succeed.
