Support Stronger Wildlife Trafficking Laws and Protect Elephants

In Kenya, Feisal Ali Mohammed, the godfather of the illegal ivory trade was recently found guilty and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment. The ruling in the country's largest ivory trafficking case signifies the nation's commitment to firmly dealing with this form of organized crime.

Illegal wildlife trafficking is now estimated to generate more than US$10 billion annually, closely following the drug trade, arms trade, and human trafficking. It has fueled the poaching of some of Africa's most iconic species, robbed communities of wildlife-related revenue, endangered citizens' lives, and financed some of Africa's most brutal terrorist groups.

Mohammad's conviction is a step in the right direction and sends a powerful message to other traffickers. Now, we must keep the pressure on by pushing even harder on countries to strengthen legal mechanisms that will ensure zero-tolerance to wildlife poaching and trafficking.
