Tell Congress: No Child Should Go Hungry

No child should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. But this is a daily question for millions of children across the United States.

That's why Boys & Girls Clubs serve as sites and sponsors for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) meal and snack programs, providing healthy meals and snacks to children during out-of-school time. These programs also provide opportunities for educational enrichment, child safety checks and physical activity.

For many children, these may be the only nutritious meals they enjoy on a normal day.

However, there's still plenty of work to be done. More than 21 million children receive free or reduced-cost meals through the National School Lunch Program, but less than 10% of these kids continue to receive meals through the USDA's Summer Food Service program. That's nearly 19 million children who could be going hungry when school is out of session.

The Child Nutrition Act authorizes the USDA's Summer Food Service Program and Child and Adult Care Food Program. The Act itself is up for reauthorization, which gives us a unique opportunity to make changes and improvements that would help expand and support meal and snack programs at Boys & Girls Clubs.

This is our opportunity to ensure even more children don't go hungry when school is out of session. Will you join us and urge Congress to improve and reauthorize the Child Nutrition Act?
