Coal-Fired Power Plants Affect Our Health

Using coal as an energy source isn't just killing our planet. It's killing us, too.

A new study has shown that fine particle pollution from coal-fired power plants could cause an estimated 13,200 deaths in 2010 alone. That's on top of the 20,000 heart attacks and 9,700 hospitalizations that are expected each year as a result of exposure to this pollution.

Heart disease, cancer, stroke, and chronic respiratory diseases are just a few of the problems associated with fine particulate matter.

In order for these casualties to stop, we need to move away from coal power immediately, and stop believing the lies that the coal industry is spreading.

Tell your legislators that we need to move away from coal power and stop the decline of America's health.
Dear Decision Maker,

Coal-fired power plants are causing the deaths of thousands of people. Coal-emissions are linked to four of the five leading causes of death in the United States.

Despite being a serious contributor to serious health problems, coal currently generates 54% of America's electricity, and is the single biggest air polluter in the U.S.

Unless we move away from coal power immediately, the U.S. can make little progress in lessening its impact on global warming and preventing the deaths of the estimated 13,200 people in 2010 as a result.

I'm writing to urge you to stop the construction of new coal plants and begin the process of moving to cleaner energy sources.

Thank you for your time.
