Tell California Representatives to Stop Playing Politics With the Drought!

This is outrageous: California’s elected officials in the House of Representatives are blaming environmentalists for California’s drought.

Throwing around the phrase “man-made drought,” House Speaker John Boehner and CA House Reps. Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield), Devin Nunes (R-Tulare) and David Valadao (R-Hanford) are using the drought as an excuse to attack California’s environmental protection laws.

Don’t let them get away with it! Tell California representatives to stop playing politics with the drought
Dear [Your representative],

Some of California’s representatives are using the drought as an excuse to strip our state of its environmental protections, and it isn’t right. What California needs is real solutions, not thinly veiled political power grabs.

What’s more, it’s hypocritical for elected officials to call this a “man-made drought,” while simultaneously denying the very real science of man’s contribution to climate change. And while the drought — like any single weather event — cannot be said to have been “caused” by climate change, we do know that severe weather events are worsened by climate change, and that if we don’t take action now, climate change will bring more frequent, and more severe, droughts.

We also know that we’re running out of time to reverse our course. Please tell your colleagues in the House of Representatives that it’s time to stop playing politics with the drought and start working on real solutions for California, and for our nation.

Sincerely,
[Your name]
