American Kids Need to Get Outside

While their parents grew up skipping stones, climbing trees and cloud gazing, today's children spend twice as much time indoors as their parents did, missing out on the simple pleasures and lasting mental and physical health benefits of daily outdoor time.

Today's kids spend an average of four to seven minutes outside each day and more than seven hours in front of electronic media.

So much screen time has contributed to an alarming increase in childhood obesity and antidepressant prescriptions, as well as declining creativity, concentration and social skills.

Be Out There aims to reverse these trends and raise healthier, happier children with a life-long love of nature by inspiring outdoor play, every day. Join the movement and take the pledge:

"I pledge to Be Out There and spend time outdoors every day for the health and happiness of the kids in my life."
