Urge Policymakers to Make Decisions Based on Evidence

Now more than ever, rigorous nonpartisan research evidence should drive education and social policymaking.

Since our founding in the mid-1970s by a consortium of public and private funders, MDRC has played a unique role in designing, testing, and expanding effective solutions to some of the nation's most pressing poverty-related problems.

Our mission has taken on new urgency in a highly politicized world. MDRC has a track record of success in documenting effective programs that address some of the nation's toughest problems, including:

  • A subsidized jobs program for returning prisoners developed by the Center for Employment Opportunities that provides supervised work experience and resulted in reduced rearrests, convictions, and incarceration
  • The City University of New York's Accelerated Study in Associate Programs, which nearly doubled the graduation rate for community college students who started in remedial classes.
  • Jobs-Plus, an employment program in public housing developments that has boosted the earnings of workers and is being replicated around the country by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development

We're doing everything we can to make sure policymakers use the best possible evidence to make decisions to help alleviate poverty. Will you join this important effort? Please, sign your name today.
