Demand Animal Planet Immediately Take Their Anti-Wolf Show Off the Air!

As part of their "Monster Week" ratings grab, Animal Planet is airing a lurid, factually absurd, and shameful special called "Man-Eating Super Wolves." The cable channel has scheduled multiple airings of the show.

This despicable distortion of reality could not come at a worse time for wolves. Wolf-haters have mounted extermination efforts in Idaho and elsewhere, threatening to reverse two decades of hard-won progress for one of America's most beloved wild animals.

TV channels like Animal Planet must accept responsibility for the real-world consequences of airing shoddy tabloid pseudo-documentaries.

Demand that Animal Planet issue a public apology for gross negligence and damaging information that was aired on National Television.
Dear Animal Planet Executives,

Subject: Immediately cease airing anti-wolf special

I am disgusted by Animal Planet's recent episode during monster week, titled, "Man-Eating Super Wolves."

Gray wolves occupy less than 15% of the habitat where they once thrived. Slaughtered to the point of near extinction in the early 20th century, it took years of education and scientific research to debunk the false perception that wolves were a threat to humans, and to finally reintroduce a handful of wolves back to their natural habitat in the Northern Rockies in 1995.

Unfortunately, the federal government prematurely ended its protection of wolves in the Northern Rockies before they could be fully restored, and today, wolves are once again being shot from helicopters and slaughtered throughout the state of Idaho, as old fears and myths continue to haunt these creatures.

Today, anti-wolf groups spread the same ignorance and fear-mongering that Animal Planet has aired on national television; groups will gleefully latch onto the "facts" that were sensationalized in this episode, to further spread their hatred and campaign to kill wolves in their state and across the country.

Despite irrefutable scientific evidence to the contrary, Animal Planet knowingly presented as fact, these same anti-wolf myths and inaccuracies that wiped out gray wolves nearly a century ago. For a network that emphasizes and prides itself on educational content and conservation-minded subject matter, I am outraged by the irresponsible misrepresentation of a still-recovering species that perpetuates lies and fear to millions across the country.

That's why I am demanding that Animal Planet immediately cease airing this episode, remove it from the website and issue a public apology for gross negligence and damaging information that was aired to viewers.

Sincerely,
