Nurdles Hurt Animals

Nurdles are the tiny bits of plastic used to produce plastic bags, bubble wrap, and packaging material. These tiny tablets are easy to lose track of while being transported all over the country. And unfortunately, many people don't know that these nurdles can turn lethal.

During transportation nurdles often spill, making their way into waterways and eventually into the ocean. Nurdles are responsible for the sickness and death of thousands of fish and birds that mistake the little plastic nubs for a nice meal. The plastic left in the ocean can take 500 to 1,000 years to break down completely. And to make matters worse, the plastic attracts and accumulates toxins.

Although there is legislation in place to regulate nurdles, it is not being enforced or being taken seriously. This problem deserves national attention and needs to be properly enforced. Urge your state officials to enforce nurdle loss laws and save animals from ingesting these toxic pills!
Dear [Your State Official],

Nurdle loss is problem affecting animals around the country. Nurdles are the tiny bits of plastic that are used to produce plastic bags, bubble wrap, and packaging material. They are often spilled during transport, making their way to waterways and eventually to the ocean.

Nurdles are hazardous because they attract animals who mistake the tiny plastic pieces for food. They accumulate toxins and take 500 to 1,000 years to break down completely. They are already responsible for the sickness and death of thousands of fish and birds and pose a threat to the habitats of endangered species.

If nurdle loss isn't properly regulated, animals will continue to die in vain. I urge you to enforce the 2007 passage of AB258, which requires regional and state water boards to control nurdle loss, and save animals from lethal plastic.
