Alaska ... Keep It Wild

Isn't it finally time to protect the treasures of America's Arctic from destructive drilling?  Last year, there were more than 90 oil spills per day in the United States.

All of America's polar bears live in the Arctic Ocean, migratory caribou still roam free in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and birds from around the globe congregate at Teshekpuk Lake in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska.  These are natural treasures that belong to us all.  We have a duty to protect them.

Please sign the petition to help protect America's Arctic for future generations...  Let's keep Alaska wild!
Dear Secretary Salazar:

Thank you for designating more than 200,000 square miles of America's Arctic as critical habitat for the polar bear.

As you have shown, the polar bear deserves real protection.  However, this protection will be compromised if the Obama administration allows risky, aggressive oil development across America's Arctic -- an area deemed crucial for the bear's future.  Oil and gas drilling would simply make things worse for the polar bear -- as well as the numerous other wildlife and Inupiat and Gwich'in people who depend on the Arctic's environment to survive.

In addition, the entire coastal plain of the Arctic Wildlife Refuge should be included in the final critical habitat designation.  One of the crown jewels of our National Wildlife Refuge System, the Arctic Refuge also provides crucial denning habitat for the polar bear.
